Mr Des Sjoquist, School Director

Personal Statement;
I believe my professional mission is:

  • To create a professional learning community where everyone feels safe, valued, engaged and challenged to grow.
  • To provide opportunities, and encouragement, for continual professional development; moving constantly towards becoming better teachers and thereby creating more effective learning environments.
  • To work closely with teachers, parents, students and support staff to develop and grow a common vision, mission, set of values and goals for a professional learning community.
  • To find ways to celebrate our successes and differences.
  • To continually strive for quality education.

In order to fulfill this mission, we need to ensure that:

  • All students have the right to a quality education.
  • Students should be engaged in active student-centered activities which challenge and encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, creativity,cooperative attitudes, independence, and organizational abilities.
  • Students should take ownership of their education.
  • Teaming improves the learning environment for students and teachers.
  • Learning is always more effective when people have fun.
  • Education is the responsibility of all stakeholders in a community.

What attracted me to RVIS is that my professional beliefs and values are so closely aligned with the vision of the school and all of its stakeholders.  The facility and resources are amazing, but as with any quality leading organization, it is the people who make it exceptional.  It is a pleasure to be a member of the RVIS family.
