Admissions

Message from the Director of Admissions

May 2010

Thank you for your interest in enrolling your son or daughter in Riffa Views International School. This is an important decision for you and your child.
You will find comprehensive information about our curriculum in the Academics section of our web site. You will also find the bios of all of our faculty and staff
in the Parents section. Please take the time to look over the other areas of our Website as well. A special recent highlight is two videos depicting Our Work
and Our School which you can link to under the admissions menu 'Applying to RVIS.' After you have done so, look through the various Admissions sections, read the Admissions Process and Procedures, download an Admissions Application Form along with accompanying forms, and take the next step by setting up a time to visit me at RVIS for more information and a campus tour.

I look forward to the opportunity of speaking with you further about your educational expectations for your child at RVIS.

Pats McWilliams,
Director of Admissions

FACT SHEET

Greetings from RVIS!

Riffa Views International School continues to accept inquiries from prospective students for the 2009/2010 school year as well as for the upcoming 2010/2011 school year. For the 2010/2011 school year spaces are still available in all Grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 7, however, space is very limited in Grades 1 and 4.   You are invited to stop by the Admissions Office to pick up an admissions packet and to meet with me, or you may download the admissions application forms from this Website and have them completed by the time you come into the school to apply for a place for your child.

It is important to note that RVIS follows an American grading sequence.  In order to be eligible for admission, Pre-Kindergarten children must be four years old by September 1, five years old for Kindergarten, and so on through the grades.  All prospective students will be required to sit for an admissions test as well as submit previous school records and a completed Confidential School Report from your child's current school prior to their acceptance to RVIS.  In lieu of this testing, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children will be asked to participate in a readiness assessment session.

moderate LEARNING DIFFICULTIES

RVIS is unable to service children with moderate or severe behavioral or learning difficulties.  Riffa Views International School will only enroll children who are deemed to be capable of achieving success given the college preparatory nature of the school program.

ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY

Additionally, all children applying to enroll in Riffa Views International School will be expected to demonstrate reasonable competency in the English language. In the higher grades, especially from Grade 2 and up they should be quite fluent in the English language. English fluency is not required in Pre-Kindergarten.

Curriculum

Riffa Views International School provides an American curriculum leading to an International Baccalaureate diploma or American diploma upon matriculation. Once the student reaches Grade 11, he/she will choose which avenue they will take - IB or American high school diploma.

During the 2009/2010 school year RVIS is pursuing joint accreditation with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) located in the United States and with the Council of International Schools (CIS) located in Europe. This process usually takes about three years to complete.

The school opened its doors on September 3, 2008, with an enrollment of 78 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten (four-year-olds) up to and including Grade five.  Commencing in 2010 Grade 7 has been added and additional grades will be added each year thereafter. As of May 2010, we currently have 189 students enrolled for the 2009/2010 school year with an additional 45 new students enrolled/applying for the 2010/2011 school year.

Classes are co-ed until Middle School where the academic classes become single gender. After School Activities, lunch time, etc., are grades are mixed throughout the school.
